Kimberly Kirkland

Kimberly Kirkland

Kimberly Kirkland Kimberly graduated from Williams College in 1983. She received her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1990. She was admitted to the Massachusetts bar that year and practiced commercial litigation in Boston for four years. Kimberly then moved to New Hampshire where she continued to practice as a trial lawyer but shifted the focus of her practice to the areas of medical malpractice and employment law.

In 2000 Kimberly joined the faculty of the Franklin Pierce Law Center, now the University of New Hampshire School of Law, where she taught Civil Procedure, Professional Responsibility and Employment Law, and served as Associate Dean for Research. During her time on the faculty at UNH she conducted empirical research and published on lawyers’ ethics.

Kimberly left teaching to return to practice at Reis Law in 2014. She represents clients in medical malpractice cases and cases involving serious personal injuries. She teaches periodically at UNH Law as an adjunct. In 2014 she was appointed by the New Hampshire Supreme Court to serve on the Advisory Committee on Judicial Ethics, the Committee that provides ethics guidance to New Hampshire judges. Kimberly writes:

I am grateful and proud to work with excellent colleagues to help our clients find justice. Representing patients in medical negligence cases is rewarding and challenging work. It requires that I come to know my clients – to know what their lives were like and what mattered to them before they were injured – so that I can understand the consequences of the malpractice they have suffered. It is my privilege to give voice to the losses they have experienced.

Medical negligence cases require that I learn the medicine relevant to each client’s case and work closely with experts to identify the standards and practices that should have guided the medical care at issue. Based on that research I identify and marshal the evidence to prove any mistakes that were made by our client’s health care providers. I find this process to be fascinating and gratifying.

I work unwaveringly to uncover the truth of what occurred – something that many defendant health care providers are reluctant to reveal. I enjoy such detective work. Finally, in telling my clients’ stories I try to persuasively present and explain the medical evidence, the trust my client placed in a health care provider, and the consequences my client suffered as a result of the betrayal of that trust. It is an enormously rewarding responsibility.

Kimberly is also an accomplished legal writer. Read her published articles.

Kimberly is married to Randy Reis. She has two sons, two step-daughters and four step-grandchildren.
